Retrofit firm rebrands as it looks to break £5m barrier

Liverpool city region energy retrofit specialist Gray North West rebrands as Gaia Energy as it gets set to break through the £5m revenues barrier for the first time. Tony McDonough reports

Just five years after launching a Liverpool city region energy retrofit specialist is set to break through the £5m barrier for the first time.

Started in Knowsley as Gray North West in the midst of the COVID pandemic, the firm has now rebranded as Gaia Energy. Sales were £2.9m in 2023/24, £4.7m in 2024/25 and this financial year is likely to see that figure rise above £5m.

This rebrand will kick-start a new phase of expansion for the venture as it scales up to meet rising demand for energy efficiency measures. 

A new website has also been launched to make services more accessible, particularly for low-income households who may be eligible for free upgrades under Government-backed energy efficiency programmes.

As part of its growth strategy, Gaia Energy is expanding its commercial solar division to help businesses across the North West reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

Gaia Energy founder and managing director Liam Gray said: “Five years ago, we set out to provide energy efficiency upgrades at homes across Liverpool city region, with the aim of helping low-income households save on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.

“We’ve seen first-hand the impact of this essential home improvement work, which is helping change lives in local communities while supporting the journey to net zero.

“As we mark our fifth year in business, we’re proud of how far we’ve come and we’re looking forward to our next phase of growth with the expansion of our commercial solar team.”

Gaia Energy is based in carbon-neutral offices at Knowsley Business Park. The company powers its operations with solar energy and adopts bulk purchasing practices to reduce environmental impact.

It also says it supports the local economy by recruiting talent from within Liverpool city region and working with local suppliers. Its new branding was developed in partnership with Liverpool-based creative agency Black & Ginger.

Liam, and joint managing director Steven Gallagher, also maintain strong community links. The company sponsors Prescot Cables under-eights football team and supports local initiatives such as Sefton Pantry, which provides food and clothing for vulnerable people.
