Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation announces Max Steinberg as new chair

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Max Steinberg CBE FRSA, as chair of the board of trustees.

The position is effective from January 2016. Professor Ray Donnelly MBE FRCS, founder and president, will step down as interim chair but will continue to serve on the Board of Trustees.

Professor Donnelly commented:

“I am very pleased to have found someone of the highest calibre to succeed Sir Philip Carter who was an outstanding chair of the board for 17 years. The foundation is on the cusp of great things in its fight against lung cancer and, in Max Steinberg, we have someone with the skills and prestige to accelerate our progress on a national and international level at this important time.”

Max holds a number of high profile positions prior to joining the foundation, which include chief executive of Liverpool Vision and chair of the International Festival for Business. In 2011, Max was awarded a Senior Fellowship at Liverpool Hope University and in 2013 received a CBE for services to business and the community.

Paula Chadwick MCIPD, chief executive of the foundation made further comment:

“We are delighted to have someone of Max’s pedigree on board as Chair. 2016 represents an important year for the Foundation, we need to tackle the rise of lung cancer within women and campaign for a national screening programme. We will also continue to fund vital medical research, support our patients and their families.

“To achieve all of this we need the highest calibre of leadership in our Board of Trustees and in Max we have this, appointing Max as chair is a major step forward for us. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Ray for all his hard work as Chair of the Board during 2015 and having our Founder stay on as a Trustee and President is invaluable to us.”

Upon accepting the position Max Steinberg CBE, chair of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said:

“It’s a great honour to succeed the late Sir Philip Carter as the chair of this world-class and pioneering organisation. The foundation’s work and research in fighting lung cancer is internationally renowned and its support is making a huge difference to the lives of patients and families. I’m delighted to be joining the team and look forward to continuing its important work.”
