Tickets are on sale for a dinner at Sefton Park Palm House to celebrate philanthropist Henry Yates Thompson, who gifted £10,000 for the construction of the Grade II-listed building in 1896.

Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust is hosting the dinner on Saturday, October 13, to raise money for new projects that will provide “lifelong learning and heritage interpretation for our local community”.

They are promising an “avant-garde feast for the senses” with “breathtaking performances and the most exquisite menu”, inspired by the exotic botanical collection, with illuminations, fire and aerial performances.

The event will see the Palm House relive the “whimsy and showmanship” of the 19th century, with fine wines and a culinary delight inspired by the historic journey of the plants and statues that make up this magical heritage attraction.

Roy Boardman, director of Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust, said: “The Henry Yates Thompson Dinner is a celebration of the Palm House’s proud history and it is also part of the trust’s commitment to our community, who worked so hard to save this magnificent building from dereliction in the 1990s.

“People often forget that this magnificent venue is also a visitor attraction and we open for all to enjoy this historic Liverpool Botanical Collection free of charge most days of the week.”

This annual event aims to raise £10,000 on the night and the evening is priced at £75 per person or a table of 10  for £750. It will begin at 7.30pm. To book or for more information click here.
