The Guide to be Eurovision ‘voice of Liverpool’

Liverpool media outlet The Guide will be the ‘voice of Liverpool’ during the two weeks leading up to Eurovision

The Guide will offer comprehensive Eurovision coverage from May 1

Media outlet The Guide will become the ‘voice of Liverpool’ from May 1 as the city begins the countdown to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Taking place at the M&S Bank Arena on Liverpool waterfront on Saturday, May 13, Eurovision is a truly global event that will be watched by a worldwide TV audience of more than 160m people.

In Liverpool, preparations are well under way and they will accelerate from early March with a series of events. Liverpool City Council will open a ‘Eurovision Village’ at the Pier Head from Friday, May 5.

And from Monday, May 1, The Guide will have daily coverage from its team of presenters based in locations around the city centre, as well as out and about getting reactions from local and international fans.

There will also be backstage interviews from events as artists and Eurovision legends descend on the city, a light will be shone on the locals working hard to create the contest and the businesses putting on the best parties and shows.

And, acknowledging Liverpool’s hosting on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine, presenters will be meeting people from Liverpool’s Ukrainian community to find out more about their experiences.

The Guide has already collaborated with organisations such as Culture Liverpool and Aintree Racecourse to produce coverage for large-scale events such as The Giants, The Grand National and two Liverpool FC Champions League parades.

Founder Jay Hynd says Eurovision could be the biggest party the city has ever seen – and a huge opportunity to put the city in the global shop window.

“We want The Guide’s coverage to be not just a showcase for Eurovision but a showcase for Liverpool,” he said. “We know naturally we’re going to have the eyes of the world on us, so we really want to make the most of that.

“This is a crucial time to get people looking at the city, through us, and saying ‘wow, isn’t Liverpool amazing, we need to go and visit’.”

Graham Norton, Alesha Dixon, Julia Sanina and Hannah are the hosts of Eurovision 2023

Even before the contest begins, The Guide has already helped to secure a major Eurovision victory. It produced the winning bid video that was used by the city council to seal the deal for Liverpool to host the contest.

A daily ‘Countdown to the Contest’ video will share all the latest information as it’s announced, from chatting to the arena about how preparations are going, to revealing details of the EuroFest cultural programme, and screenings at local bars and clubs.

From May 1 to May 13, The Guide’s presenting team will bring all of the Eurovision action as it happens with Jay Hynd, Josh McDowell, Claire Simmo, Gemma Cutting and Rachel Rhodes.

Pete Price will also be on the streets of Liverpool everyday chatting to visitors and locals alike about their Eurovision experience.
