Wirral-based clinical trials specialist FutureMeds is looking to expand across the world as its European operations see big rises in both revenues and pre-tax profits.

Headquartered in Bromborough, FutureMeds was founded in 2020 by Dr Radoslaw Janiak, Marcin Gondek and Paul Chambers. It operates 28 sites in the UK and across Europe, facilitating clinical trials for major pharmaceutical businesses.

It provides end-to-end clinical trial services, including patient recruitment, clinical trial execution and hybrid/virtual trial services. During 2025 it employed more than 460 people.

When a pharmaceutical company wants to bring a new drug to market, three-stage clinical trials are an essential part of securing regulatory approval. The entire conception-to-market process can take years and often costs more than £1bn.

FutureMeds has tapped into this demand and, according to its latest annual accounts posted on Companies House, it is doing very well. In the 12 months to December 31, 2025 revenues soared 38% to £37.2m with pre-tax profits up 22% to £2.2m.

In 2025 the three founders secured investment from private equity outfit Phoenix, which now owns up to 50% of the shares in the business. The value of the deal was not disclosed but, at year end, FutureMeds had net assets of £7m (2024: £5.9m).

This deal has given the business a platform to begin its next stage of expansion which will take it beyond Europe and across the world.

At the time of the investment FutureMeds co-founder Paul Chambers said: “We have grown FutureMeds into the largest SMO network in Europe, but we are still just scratching the surface of what is possible.

“The opportunity ahead to expand our reach, broaden our capabilities and serve even more patients and sponsors is enormous. We see our partnership with Phoenix as an important step in unlocking the next phase of scale and ambition.”

Writing in the annual report, chief financial officer Paul Maddison added: “As we continue to grow, our focus remains expanding on enhancing our site network, initially within Europe before extending our reach globally.”
