Youth group celebrate 10 years tackling smoking

Youth marketing group DMYST, formed to tackle concerns that young people were being targeted by tobacco companies has celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an event at FACT cinema.

The youth group has actively worked to change the perceptions around smoking and has played pivotal roles in campaigns to tackle smoking in movies and on television, promoting and lobbying for SmokeFree cars and play areas and plain packaging of tobacco.

The 10-year anniversary saw over 100 people attend FACT cinema to celebrate all the outstanding work carried out by the group. Guests enjoyed a short film, interactive apps and an experts’ panel. The occasion showcased some of the talented young individuals that are currently involved in the programme while offering the chance for other young people to join the group and develop essential life skills.

DMYST has allowed group members to work alongside marketing professionals to combat the misconceptions about smoking while working to ban illegal advertising from our screens through innovative marketing techniques.

DMYSTs’ social media and marketing expert, Stephen Longworth said:

“We are so pleased with the success of the event and I am so proud of the team for making it such a memorable celebration.

“We had amazing feedback and we are positive that it will secure the success of the group for many years to come. We look forward to seeing some of the young people who attended the event joining DMYST and we hope they will continue the excellent work the group has already made possible.”
