Developer Anwyl Partnerships has started work on an £8.5m extra care scheme in Wirral in Partnership with Magenta Living.

Located on Greenheys Road in Wallasey, the project comprises 53 apartments and is aimed at filling the gap in provision for homes for more elderly people who want to live indecently but with extra support.

Two existing buildings at the 1.2-acre site have been demolished to make way for the apartments, which include 45 one-bedroom units and eight two-bedroom units, as well as car parking and landscaping.

Mike Nevitt, managing director of Anwyl Partnerships, said: “It’s great to begin work on this brilliant scheme. There has been extensive planning and consultation during the development phase, identifying and recognising a real need within a specific area.

“There are no other similar older persons living developments within Wallasey and this scheme will provide a niche gap that sits between independent living and care home living. It’s great to once again partner with Magenta.”

North Wales-based Anwyl has been an active developer across Liverpool city region over the past few years, delivering a number of schemes. In early August it submitted a fresh application to build more than 230 homes on Widnes Golf Club after a previous bid was rejected by Halton Council.

The extra care development in Wallasey is expected to take 19 months to build with handover anticipated in early 2023. Justine Gore, assistant director of development at Magenta Living, added: “Greenheys Road is a very exciting development for Magenta Living as it’s our biggest extra care scheme to date in Wirral.

“With an ageing population in the area, this scheme will provide 53 much-needed apartments for local residents looking for independent living with care packages available. The development team at Magenta Living have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition.”
