Liverpool band Baiana are releasing a ‘spine-tingling’ single in time for Halloween.

Voodoo Man will be launched with a live show at Liverpool’s hip new music venue Melodic Distraction on Thursday, October 28. It has been produced by acclaimed musician and producer Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove.

Baiana singer LAURA DOYLE described the track as an “anti love song”. She said: “Voodoo Man is a warning to everyone out there not to fall for those bewitching bad-boy charmers, the sort who seem too good to be true and turn out to bring nothing but heart-ache and trouble.

“We’ve all been there, especially me, so this is really an anti-love-song, a reminder that sometimes charm is only skin deep and the most charming can be the biggest heart-breakers.”

To add to the spooky feel, Voodoo Man features an instrument called the Ondomo, a rarely-used electronic musical instrument which features in sci-fi and horror soundtracks.

The single also features the talents of the Haggis Horns, leading figures on the UK funk scene who have played on tracks with stars such as Amy Winehouse, Adele and Duran Duran.

Voodoo Man was co-written by Laura and the band’s bassist Jesse Eigen. The other members of the band are guitarist Micky Dunne and Vidar Norheim on vibes and drums.

Baiana takes Brazil’s music scene for its inspiration. Laura lived in Brazil for several years. This is the band’s third single. An as-yet-untitled album is due for release in 2022.
