BBC Worldwide has announces major sales increase at Liverpool showcase
BBC Worldwide has reported a significant increase in sales to digital clients at its showcase at ACC Liverpool.
Over 2,300 hours of content have been purchased by global digital distributors.
Paul Dempsey, president of global market for BBC Worldwide, explained:
“We’ve seen a significant increase in sales to digital clients from all over the world, fuelled by new and established customers. The notable shift we are seeing towards video streaming and on-demand means viewers are increasingly able to access our content wherever and whenever they want it.”
Woongjin of South Korea ordered numerous CBeebies titles for broadcasting on mobile devices, while OTT’s Chinese platform Tencent bought Atlantis, Orphan Black, Sherlock, and The Zoo.
Hulu renewed it agreement to license a raft of content for Japanese markets for the next three years, including flagship titles like The Musketeers, Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Top Gear and Life.
Deals were also struck with Israel’s Cellcom, VIDI TV’s streaming service in South Africa, and Amazon in Germany.
Now in it’s 39th year, the BBC Worldwide Showcase attracts 700 international TV buyers to the city who come to view and purchase British TV content.
