Liverpool city region charity The Big Trust has  launched its new project today aimed to help primary school children have the support they need.

SMILE stands for Support Mission in Liverpool Education and helps primary schools and its children in the most deprived areas of the Liverpool city region. It offers support to the children and families of those living in poverty through the SMILE programme.

The Big Trust was set up in 2016 as a is a regional charity to create a network of influential business leaders and businesses in the city region to help make a difference by sharing their skills, offering training or helping to tackle social problems.

“Through recent charity work, I was introduced to disadvantaged families coming away from the experience wanting to do more,” said James Winters, director of M-Tech Electrical Contractors.

“With the SMILE project and our network of small business’s we hope to work closely with schools and children in the most disadvantaged areas. Providing them with the opportunity of educational materials, extra-curricular activities, and crisis support.”

A group of local small businesses, led by M-Tech and James expressed their desire to help primary schools in the LCR who need it the most. They will fundraise in order to help schools and children, supporting them in different ways.

The Big Trust has three current strands of activity which companies and businesses in Liverpool take part in to support and help the most disadvantaged. These are:

  • Ready to Work – The Big Trust uses its business network to help people get into work, where they have experienced barriers in the normal job market.
  • Work Inspiration – charity works with schools in areas of disadvantage to help primary and secondary school children understand job opportunities through engagement with their business network.
  • Community Impact Board – This is an advisory committee to The Big Trust, involving large, medium and small businesses in the city region who wish to work with The Big Trust in delivering its agenda.
