Liverpool city council is seeking the views of residents, businesses and road users on a £5m scheme to transform the area around Liverpool’s FC’s Anfield stadium.

City leaders have published proposals covering Walton Breck Road, Oakfield Road, Pulford Street, Back Rockfield Road, and Gilman Street. These would see improved public realm and pedestrian connectivity.

There will also be trees planted, upgraded footpaths, road resurfacing, new street lighting, mini-roundabout at the junction of Walton Breck Road and Oakfield Road, reduced road widths and speed limits and reconfigured on-street parking.

This is part of a wider regeneration push for Anfield. In March the city council paid Your Housing Group £381,000 for a number of plots on a 2.5-acre site adjacent to the stadium.

It announced an intention go out to the market to find a developer to bring forward a multi-million pound mixed-used scheme. This would include leisure, entertainment and employment uses, rather than residential development.

Cllr Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said: “This £5m investment in Walton Breck Road is about more than just infrastructure – it’s about creating a safer, greener, and more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, and visits Anfield.

“These improvements will help knit together the community, support local businesses, and ensure the area continues to thrive as part of our long-term regeneration plans.

Residents, commuters, and local stakeholders are encouraged to complete the online survey. Alternatively, people can attend a drop-in event at The Liverpool Lighthouse, Oakfield Road, L4 0UF (Wednesday, August 13, 10am to 5pm).

The consultation will present detailed design proposals, visualisations, construction timelines, and a summary of expected benefits. Feedback will help shape the final Stage 2 Detailed Design before construction begins.

All responses will be reviewed by Liverpool City Council and its design consultant, Aecom. For further information contact: de**************@***********ov.uk (include ‘Walton Breck Road’ in the subject line).
