Civil welcome for ex Cunard workers

The work of ex cunarders have been celebrated at a civic service this week, which was attended by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Tony Concepcion.

Today, over 150 past Cunard staff met up again at a short service at Liverpool Parish Church before heading off to the Town Hall for refreshments with the Lord Mayor.

Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Tony Concepcion said:

“This is one of my first few events as Lord Mayor and I am delighted to be welcoming ex Cunard staff to the Town Hall.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for many of them to catch up and reminisce on their time at sea and on land.”

Employees from the pre 1967 era of Cunard, some as old as 101, will met at Our Lady and St Nicholas by 4 Bell Boys and Mezzo Soprano singer Danielle Thomas performed near the end of the service.

A plaque will also be presented to the rector of Liverpool Parish Church on behalf of the Cunarders that lost their lives during the war.
