Local cancer support charity Liverpool Sunflowers hosted a Women’s Pamper Evening on Thursday 12 June as part of Cervical Screening Awareness Week 2014.

The fundraiser evening was held at the Sunflowers Centre on Aigburth Road to help raise awareness ofcervical screening, as well as raise vital funds for the charity which supports local people living with cancer, and their families.

During the evening, guests were treated to a range of treatments and therapies, including massage stations, reiki, acupuncture, and beauty treatments including mini manicures and facials.

In addition, a number of art prints were exhibited and sold, each featuring the work of local cancer sufferers who attend Liverpool Sunflowers and paint as part of weekly art therapy classes.

More than 40 members of the local community attended the event, showing their support for the charity and its important work – and a massive £580 was raised during the evening.

Joan Elmer, Chief Executive Officer at Liverpool Sunflowers said:

“It was absolutely fantastic to see so many people from the local community all coming together to help make our ladies pamper night such a success and helping us to raise so much for this fantastic cause.

“A huge thanks to everyone who came along to be a part of the event, to all of our dedicated volunteers, and to the local companies, beauticians and therapists who gave up their evening to help support us too, including Jan Patton from Beauty All Over Liverpool, Angela Valentine Acupuncture, and Charmed by Allison jewellery.”

Anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis in Merseyside is welcome to access service at Liverpool Sunflowers, which offers free counselling and group support sessions in a welcoming and safe environment, and alternative therapies that compliment medical treatment offered by the NHS.

All of the charity’s services are free to access and led by a team of professionals.
