Construction consultancy Vextrix has agreed to become a patron of Wirral-based youth organisation The Hive Wirral Youth Zone and will provide vital funding.

Based in Birkenhead, The Hive operates seven days a week and works with 3,000 young people each year from across Wirral. It offers them “somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to”. Activities cover sports, arts, music, climbing and cooking.

These are underpinned with developmental and support programmes such as young leaders’ courses, employability schemes and a mentoring programme. Post pandemic and with the rise in the cost-of-living families are struggling more than ever, so The Hive has never been more needed.

Chief executive Mark Easdown said: “We are absolutely delighted by Vextrix’s decision to join our family of patrons. We can’t thank them enough for their incredible support. Thanks to Vextrix we are now able to continue to deliver essential work with the many young people who’ve come to rely on us.

“Through our activities we provide youth work and support to young people aged between eight and 19 (up to 25 with additional needs and disabilities). They face a range of issues and challenging circumstances including family breakdown, exclusion from mainstream education or engagement in antisocial or criminal activity.”

Vextrix provides project managers, quantity surveyors, engineering designers and health and safety consultants to the construction industry. Managing director Philip Marsden added: “On our journey to find a local charity partner that aligned with our values, we were introduced to The Hive.

“We were blown away at the opportunities and support they provide for the local young people. We knew instantly that through our company volunteering and mentoring schemes, we were able to support them on their journey.

“The whole team is excited to get involved and support in the best way that they can. We’re looking forward to seeing how the partnership develops over the next 12 months.”
