Council to host net zero forum for Liverpool firms
Liverpool City Council is inviting local businesses to attend a free event at the end of January to find out how they can benefit from the city’s net zero ambitions. Tony McDonough reports

Liverpool businesses and entrepreneurs are being invited to a free event in the city at the end of January to discuss the business opportunities in net zero.
This business engagement forum, organised by Liverpool City Council, will give Liverpool entrepreneurs and leaders the chance to discover how the city’s net zero transition can unlock savings, new opportunities and long‑term growth.
Realising Net Zero Liverpool: Business Engagement Forum forms part of the authority’s ongoing commitment to achieving an ambitious, cleaner, and more resilient net‑zero future.
The forum will bring together businesses, innovators, and sustainability leaders to discuss how Liverpool can collectively remove the barriers that currently challenge progress toward net zero goals.
It is part of the wider Realising Net Zero Liverpool (RNZL) programme, a major initiative aimed at driving climate action across the city through collaboration, innovation, and shared learning.
Taking place from 3pm to 4.30pm on Thursday, January 29, at The Spine in Paddington Village, the forum will be hosted by Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council. This session has been designed to support businesses on the journey to net zero by providing:
- Insight into Liverpool’s net‑zero strategy and key RNZL exemplar projects.
- Opportunities to engage directly with programme partners, including the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Scottish Power, Onward Homes, and New Resource Partners.
- Practical discussion on investment, impact, and how local businesses can contribute to — and benefit from — decarbonisation efforts.
The forum will also feature expert presentations from leading voices in Liverpool’s net‑zero transition. Hugo Chandler, representing project partner New Resource Partners, will outline the practical steps businesses can take to reduce emissions.
Fiona Piercy, director of capital projects and sustainability at the city council will contribute strategic insights from her leadership in economic development and place‑shaping, giving business owners a clear view of Liverpool’s net‑zero ambitions.

Cllr Robinson said: “Liverpool’s transition to net zero won’t be achieved by the public sector alone — our business community is absolutely central to driving this change.
“This forum is a chance for local firms to understand the real commercial advantages of decarbonisation, from cutting costs to opening up new markets.”
