The dot-art Gallery will be taking part in city wide arts extravaganza Light Night on Friday 13th May by putting on a Mini Street Festival in Queen Avenue.
This year’s event has the theme of Experiment and the gallery is embracing this by launching their new exhibition “Experiments in Photography” on the evening. There will also be hands on photography workshops suitable for all ages, street food from Cau, wine tasting from R&H Fine Wine and live music from the Havana Sugar Kings and the Cantemus Choir.
Light Night, Liverpool’s one-night arts and culture festival returns to illuminate the city for a seventh year on Friday 13 May 2016 from 5-10pm. Everyone is invited to explore Liverpool as our world-class galleries, museums and public spaces stay open late for a free showcase of the city’s arts and culture. dot-art, who opened their new gallery in Queen Avenue in February, decided it would be a fantastic opportunity to showcase this hidden gem in the heart of the city’s business district.

“Light Night is an absolutely fantastic event for our city and with over 60000 visitors last year, we thought it would be the perfect time to open up our beautiful avenue to a wider audience. We regularly have visitors who know the city well tell us they had only just discovered the area, despite the fact that it is just off Castle Street and a stone’s throw from the Town Hall. We hope our event will encourage more people to come and discover our wonderful home!”
Experiments in Photography is a group exhibition featuring the work of eight local photographers. Through process, composition and technique, it showcases a diverse range of experimental photography. From David John Pearson’s warped light forms to Bryn Davies’ beautiful East Asia landscapes, Experiments in Photography demonstrates the balance between technology and nature, through both digital and analogue processes.
Alongside the exhibition, one of the participating artists Rachel Brewster will be running a pop-up printmaking workshop. Using cyanotypes, one of the earliest experimental techniques in photography, you can create a unique handmade postcard, notelet or bookmark to take away. These family friendly workshops are suitable from ages 5+ (but lots of fun for adults too!)

Fellow Queen Avenue businesses Cau and R&H Fine Wine will be offering visitors delicious “experimental” BBQ Argentinian Street food and unusual and different wines to try, while live music will be provided by the Havana Sugar Kings and the Cantemus Choir.

The dot-art Gallery is open 10am-6pm, Monday to Saturday. The Experiments in Photography exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 13th May to Saturday 2nd July.
