Developer Elliot Group has started work on its £40m residential scheme, The Address, its final project in Liverpool’s Wolstenholme Square.

Newry Construction has started building The Address, which will comprise 32 studio apartments, 102 one-bed apartments and 66 two-bed homes across 151,620 sq ft of space.

There will be two commercial units on the ground floor, with the developer committed to leasing them to local entrepreneurs in line with its wider strategy for the £100m Wolstenholme Square project, a mix of residential and commercial space.

The Address is on the former headquarters of social care charity PSS, which Elliot Group acquired in June 2017, and will rise to 11 storeys. Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group said: “It’s great to see the steel framework coming out of the ground and another tower crane on the Liverpool skyline.

“Hundreds of people have already moved in to the earlier phases of the development and our lettings strategy for the commercial space is bringing some really interesting proposals forward from local entrepreneurs. The feel of the area is being transformed and the Seel Street Hotel has added nicely to the mix, too.”

The £20m hotel opened in December in time for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Napoli and since then has enjoyed “buoyant” trading.  The property is managed under contract by Liverpool-based EPIC and boasts 128 rooms, rooftop hotel suites with terraces and a residents’ bar and gym.

Mr Lawless added: “We always said that if we could carefully manage the mix of uses and activities we’d re-define what was a tired corner of the Ropewalks and I think we’ve achieved that.”

When completed, Wolstenholme Square will comprise more than 700 new homes, 12,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space and a new hotel.  Construction of The Address, designed by Falconer Chester Hall, is anticipated to be completed by June 2020.
