End of an era as cycle shop closes after 30 years
One of Merseyside’s best-known cycle shops is to close its doors after more than 30 years and is offering big discounts on its remaining stock. Tony McDonough reports

For more than 30 years Formby Cycles has been serving cyclists of all levels.
However, the owners of the business have decided to call it a day and will close the doors for good following a final three-week closing down sale. They will offer discounts of up to 50% while stocks last.
Phil Harvey, manager of the outlet at Formby Business Park in Altcar Road, said: “Formby Cycles has been a huge part of the local community for more than three decades and it’s incredibly sad for us to be closing the doors after so many years.
“We’ve met thousands of customers along the way, from families buying their children’s first bikes to dedicated cyclists who have supported us for years.

“However, the cycling industry has changed significantly in recent years, and the wider retail landscape has become increasingly challenging with rising costs and shifts in how people shop. It ultimately became the right time for us to step away.”

Over the years, Formby Cycles has built a loyal following across Merseyside thanks to its knowledgeable team and extensive range of products, supporting everyone from first-time riders to experienced cyclists.
The store has offered a broad selection of road, mountain, hybrid and electric bikes alongside accessories, clothing and repair services.
Customers are encouraged to visit the store early to secure the best deals as stock will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
