Former McDonald’s exec starts Liverpool venture

Diane Thomas worked at executive level for fast food giant McDonald’s and is now launching her own recruitment business in Liverpool. Tony McDonough reports

A former McDonald’s executive is embarking on what she calls her “next big adventure” by launching a recruitment business in Liverpool.

Born and bred in Liverpool, Diane Thomas worked for the global fast food giant for 22 years. During her time with the business she travelled New York and Orlando after winning awards. Between 2014 and 2016 she was the national UK training manager for the company.

She went on to work for McDonald’s franchisee Blundell’s of Liverpool and then spent two years as a Manchester-based branch manager for Career Makers Recruitment. She focused on the industrial and construction sectors.

Now Diane is taking that most recent experience and forming her own recruitment firm called DCT Recruitment. Based at the Cotton Exchange in Liverpool city centre, DCT stands for ‘Delivering Careers Together’ which she says is the philosophy of the venture.

“I’d been thinking a lot about the recruitment sector because it’s a vital driver for the economy, particularly here in the North West,” said Diane.

“If my management experience has taught me one thing it’s that success comes from building relationships and partnerships. And where is that more important than anywhere else? In finding the right person for the right employer. I know I can change that for the better. I know I can help.”

As well as her showing her track record as an executive, Diane’s CV also shows not one, but two, degrees. After leaving school she completed a degree in exercise and health science at Salford University. Later, as a single mother working full-time, she completed a business management degree.

After completing the second degree, Diane secured a secondment role as a training consultant. It was here she learned more about more about leadership, influencing others and coaching people. These are all skills that led her into recruitment.

Following on from her role at Career Makers, her speciality at DCT will be the industrial and construction sectors in the North West.
