Developer Northstone, part of the Peel Group, seeks consent to build 242 new homes on a former MoD site close to Eastham Country Park. Tony McDonough reports

Just days after Wirral Council approved a plan for 975 new homes in Bromborough it will now consider a further application for a further 242 homes in the area.
Residential developer Northstone, a division of Peel Group, has submitted a planning application to build the two, three and four-bedroom houses on a former Ministry of Defence site close to Eastham Country Park.
Totalling 20 acres, the plot was used as an oil storage depot by the MoD but has been left unused for around 20 years. Wirral Council has designated the land suitable for residential development.
This new scheme will see homes built off Old Hall Road and a short distance from the main New Chester Road and the Croft retail and leisure park which includes major retailers, a cinema and restaurants.
It was the council itself that secured outline planning consent for the project in 2022 and now that has been picked up by Northstone. 20% of the homes will be ‘affordable’ which means rents or sale prices no higher than 80% of the local market rate.
Managing director Craig Nutter said: “Northstone remains dedicated to delivering high-quality homes that meet both current and future living needs.
“This development not only regenerates a previously underutilised site but also aligns with the company’s vision of creating sustainable and well-connected communities. This marks the first of our contracts for this year but we are firmly in the market for new sites across the North West.”

Each of the homes will have air-source heat pumps and fully electric infrastructure. Northstone will include green spaces and it aims to have the first of the homes completed by the second quarter of 2026.
On Monday this week, LBN reported that a former biofuels site close to Bromborough Dock and Port Sunlight River Park will see the construction of 975 new homes.
Grammont Group and Black Pearl Homes have secured planning consent from Wirral Council for the development which is next to the River Mersey. Councillors unanimously approved the plans.
