Talented young crooner George Gallagher will be achieving The Impossible Dream and doing it “his way” at the Frank Sinatra Centenary celebrations at St George’s Hall this December.
The singer from Bootle shot to fame when he won the BBC singing contest Frank Sinatra: Our Way to find the best tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes. Wowing a panel of music experts with his amazing version of That’s Life, George scooped the ultimate prize – to sing at the London Salutes Frank centenary concert at The Eventim Apollo Hammersmith on December 13 – the night which would have been the 100th birthday of the legendary performer.
But the night before he heads to London, George will be paying tribute to the legendary singer and actor here in his home town of Liverpool.
George will be headlining the Frank Sinatra 100th Birthday Show at St George’s Hall Concert Room. Orb Events have organised this very special concert over 50 years after Frank Sinatra made his Liverpool debut on Lime Street, playing to only 200 people per performance in the vast Liverpool Empire.
Now, Sinatra’s iconic music will ring out over the historic Lime Street cobbles once more, this time from the opposite side of the road, at the beautiful St George’s Hall Concert Room.
The performance, takes place on Friday 11th December and is inspired by Sinatra’s legendary residency at the Sands Hotel in 1960. The audience and performers alike will raise a glass (and the roof) to the legacy of Sinatra on his centenary weekend.
It will feature music from throughout Sinatra’s distinguished career including all your favourite hits as well as a few festive classics and will culminate on the star’s 100th Birthday at 12am – paving the way for a rapturous finale to celebrate his life, his music and his style!
23-year-old George Gallagher from Bootle said:
“I’ve been singing since my Gran was pushing me about in my pram but I now I have the ultimate honour of singing at this fabulous event in my home city. It’s a real honour to pay tribute to such a legend and celebrate his 100th birthday. We’ll be covering all his greatest hits from his career which spanned over 60 years. I can’t wait to perform with a live band in front of my home crowd – you can’t top that!”
Also starring in the Frank Sinatra 100th Birthday Show are Liverpool Hilton hotel’s resident headline act Alan Cross, as well as local West End star Ash Morgan and city crooner Lee Martin.
The evening will feature burlesque performance from Merseyside’s favourite temptress Millie Dollar and routines from World Champion Tap Dance group Kelly’s Tappers. Exceptional 8 piece jazz orchestra The Very Snazzy Swing Band will provide the groove and keep your fingers clicking and toes-a-tapping all evening.
Also including on the bill are The Night and Days, a Merseyside-based vocal harmony group which specialises in jazz, swing and big band songs, Billy Hui, musical director of SingMe Merseyside choir who will accompany Alan Cross on some of the Christmas numbers and talented young swing and jazz singer, Danny Pye, who is a member of Liverpool-based youth singing club, Positive Impact.
The organisers hope that the audience will transport themselves back to the golden age of Hollywood and feel a sense of Las Vegas glitz in Liverpool with an evening full of glamour and elegance. Just like the very best Las Vegas venues, the floor of the Concert Hall will be set out in Cabaret style with tickets at a VIP table costing £50. VIP guests are treated to delicious gourmet canapés and a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for four VIPs to share. Gallery seating is also available at £25. All guests are encouraged to wear black tie and arrive in style.
Organiser Debbie Boyd from Orb Events said:
“We all love a bit of Frank Sinatra in this city and we want to host a celebratory and festive event like no other where we will transport our audience to a golden era of crooners, cabaret, dance and burlesque all in the stunning location of the Concert Room, this full evening entertainment will climax at midnight to welcome what would have been Sinatra’s 100th birthday in style.”
