Property giant Grosvenor has secured a 12,000 sq ft letting with vintage clothing retailer The Vintage Store at the former Topshop store in Liverpool city centre.

Although fronting onto Church Street, the unit is part of the Liverpool ONE estate owned by Grosvenor. Topshop closed after owner Arcadia Group collapsed into administration in early 2021.

In February 2021, Liverpool ONE’s estate director Iain Finlayson told LBN there had been multiple inquiries from potential occupiers about the Topshop space which totals 68,000 sq ft across four levels.

Opening at the end of May, the outlet will be The Vintage Store’s largest to date and will feature its signature collection of affordable vintage clothing, including popular sportswear retailers Adidas, Nike and Champion.

Alongside its range of casualwear, a collection of items from coveted designer brands such as Ralph Lauren and Burberry will also be on offer. The Vintage Store was born out of a drive to reuse, recycle and rework preloved clothes.

Alison Clegg, managing director, asset management at Grosvenor, said: “The Vintage Store is the perfect fit for Liverpool ONE. Its position as a sustainability-focused operator reiterates Liverpool ONE’s ambition to be a centre for environmentally conscious and responsible brands.

“We look forward to becoming the home of The Vintage Store’s largest location to date and anticipate the local community being equally excited to have affordable, vintage fashion on its doorstep.”

Despte a tough high street environment Liverpool ONE continues to secure lettings. In April it was confirmed a new £10m leisure venue would open in the former Debenhams store later this year. Gravity Active Entertainment is creating the 100,000 sq ft venue across two floors.

And earlier this month it was revealed that retail giant Marks & Spencer is to relocate its Liverpool city centre store from Compton House in Church Street to the former Debenhams store. Grosvenor has also signed up Russell & Bromley Stradivarius for space at Liverpool ONE.

With established stores in Newcastle, Sheffield, York and Hull, The Vintage Store claims to be a 100% sustainable high street brand. It is founded on the belief that shopping habits need to be remoulded into a cyclical format and that re-selling second-hand clothing is at the core of this change.

Phil Waltham ofThe Vintage Store, added, “Liverpool’s fashion, music and indie scene is one that I’ve always admired and it’s this rich tapestry that establishes the city as the perfect cultural setting for The Vintage Store.

“Liverpool ONE is a prime destination which offers the opportunity to undertake our biggest expansion yet and we look forward to increasing accessibility to sustainable fashion and introducing our unique vintage clothing collection to Liverpool.”
