Bio-refining expert H2 Energy Group has created 100 jobs and 10 apprenticeships since its relocation to Liverpool two years ago.

The news comes as the cutting-edge green energy firm, which converts industrial food waste into power outlines even greater ambition for 2016.

The North-Liverpool based company opened its HQ at the end of 2013 with assistance from the Mayoral Investment Fund.

Following a major deal  to supply bio-refineries to each of 2 Sisters Food Group’s 43 processing plants, H2 Energy Group has expanded its premises and facilities and now employs 100 people at its Wellington Business Park HQ and at its Research and Development Centre in Runcorn.

Bill Shotton, CEO and founder at H2 Energy Group, said:

“At the end of last year we signed our first major deal with one of the UK’s biggest food producers which has not only turned industry heads, but also meant that we were able to increase the size of our staff, including taking on more graduates.

“I am delighted to say that this year we have been able to expand our executive team and created a number of new roles, as well as take on a number of apprentices over our two sites.

“Throughout the business, training, personal development, upskilling and succession planning are key to both the success of the business, team and individual. It is hugely important to me that we use the talent available in Liverpool and are able to develop skills in young people specific to our business across our wide range of functions.”

It caps a remarkable year for H2 Energy Group which includes restructuring into a Group format and making a substantial investment into its Liverpool based manufacturing facilities, while adding a new laboratory at the Runcorn R&D centre.

In September, H2 Energy was also one of only three Liverpool companies invited to be part of a trade mission to China led by Chancellor George Osborne. While there, Bill Shotton was also part of the Shanghai launch of the International Festival for Business taking place in Liverpool in June 2016.

The company also picked several major business awards in 2015, including two from the Liverpool Echo – the Innovation and Technology Award and the Knowledge Business of the Year award, as chosen by the University of Liverpool.

“There has been significant acknowledgement in the market place for the Bio-Refining Technology offering a world first onsite solution for the conversion of food waste into renewable energy for food producers.

“We anticipate international expansion in 2016 and are already in contracting stages with several large food group clients in both the poultry and salmon processing industries.

“We will also shortly be announcing details of a new highly efficient and advanced pre heat treatment technology that will be manufactured here in Liverpool all of which will create more job opportunities.

“In 2016 we will be involved in IFB here in our home city and focusing on UKTI’s international opportunities for renewable energy.
