Accountancy firm BDO says it now employs more than 700 people in Liverpool after seeing headcount increase by 75% over the past three years.

Late in 2019 BDO opened a second office in the city centre at No 1 Tithebarn to add to its existing base in nearby Temple Square where at that point it employed 250 people. The second site initially saw the hiring of 150 extra people.

Since then job creation at the firm has accelerated and it is now one of the biggest employers in Liverpool city centre. This has been driven by demand for what it calls SSC services.

SSC stands for shared service centre and it employs people in a variety of high-skill roles including compliance, finance, workflow and data management. This adds to its audit, tax and advisory functions in the city.

BDO has adopted a recruitment strategy that includes building relationships and partnerships with local universities, colleges as well as organisations that support social mobility.

Nigel Britton, partner and head of BDO’s shared service centre, said: “We are incredibly proud of BDO’s success in Liverpool over the last six years, particularly the growth of our shared service centre. This is now an instrumental part of the daily operations and continued success of the UK firm.
