High street store opened by one of Merseyside’s youngest entrepreneurs
One of the region’s youngest entrepreneurs has opened her own high street shop following collaboration with a fellow creative trader.
Rachel Gilbertson started selling her hand-made and costume jewellery, bags and accessories at craft fairs when she was just 18 and now at the age of 20 has her own retail store.
Last year she began selling under the name Roxiie’s Treasures in a room in a facility called The Crosby Emporium but earlier this year, following the closure of the Emporium Rachel joined forces with trader Wendy Edwards.
Their shop, the Treasure Trove, opened its doors for the first time this month.
Rachel said:
“We both wanted to go in together and have our own shop. This became available and so we decided to take it,” she said.
“A lot more passing trade is coming in now. We are seeing more mature people in the shop as well as mums with prams.
“We have expanded into doing more home stuff as well as the jewellery.”
Wendy only discovered her creative talents after retiring from her career as an admin worker.
She said:
“I started making pearl and crystal jewellery and my friends and family really liked them so I started to do other things such as scarves and accessories.”
Rachel and Wendy have taken a lease on the shop for 12 months with extension on the cards in the future.
