Provenio Litigation says the value of the business litigation claims it has handled has broken through the £1bn barrier just five years after the law firm was founded.

In 2019 a group of senior DLA Piper lawyers headed by Mark Goodwin, established Provenio in Liverpool as a boutique practice. Since then it has  attracted high value national and international instructions.

Based in Exchange Flags, it has also expanded into new areas of litigation, grown the business through a £50m litigation funding agreement, launched an insolvency litigation and financing service  and launched a graduate solicitor apprenticeship programme.

Mark Goodwin said: “When we launched Provenio, our vision was to create the premier business litigation firm outside London, using a team that all formerly worked together at DLA Piper in Liverpool.

“The COVID pandemic slowed our initial progress but to attract business litigation instructions with a combined value of £1bn shows how far we have come over the last five years.

“Our model, operating as a boutique, is without the conflict issues experienced by the larger, full-service firms. We are currently instructed on cases in the UK, Middle East, US and across Europe and South America.

“Crucially we have successfully implemented our growth strategy by attracting high value instructions, breaking into new areas of work and growing the business with a number of our high value cases being supported by the leading litigation funders.”

Provenio has recognised and rewarded its home-grown talent. Hannah Catterall and Emma Charnock have both been promoted to partners at the firm while Provenio has strengthened its international practice through the appointment of Daniel Jude.

In other key developments, January 2024 saw the launch of Provenio’s new insolvency litigation financing service – Optimise – to support insolvency practitioners in pursuing claims against directors and third parties and maximise returns to creditors.

The firm has launched its graduate solicitor apprenticeship programme, welcoming four trainees to the business over the last two years. Provenio has also attracted external recognition through a range of industry awards and rankings.

Mark Goodwin added: “Our aim is to strengthen our position as the premier business litigation firm outside London while continuing to develop our profile in the London market and international profile.

“We have made giant strides over the last five years and look forward to continuing to develop the Provenio business.”
