Leading Liverpool family lawyer makes equity partner

Having established her reputation at DWF, Beverley Jones and her team joined JMW Solicitors in 2018 to set up its Liverpool office and now she has been made an equity partner. Tony McDonough reports

One of Liverpool’s best-known family law experts is to become a full equity partner at North West law firm JMW Solicitors.

Beverley Jones established her reputation in family law while at Liverpool firm DWF. She became an associate at the St Paul’s Square firm in 2012 and became head of the family department in 2013, later being made a partner.

However, in 2018 the entire family law team at DWF jumped ship to join Manchester-based JMW. Wirral-born Ms Jones headed up the firm’s newly-established Liverpool operation, running a six-strong team.

In an interview with LBN following her departure from DWF, Ms Jones admitted leaving the practice would be a “wrench” but added: “This was simply too good an opportunity to turn down.”

Now she becomes one of seven promotions to equity partner at JMW, which is a full-service law firm. The others are Elspeth Kinder and Michael Chapman in family law, Steve Morris in commercial litigation, Thomas Pearson in commercial property, Lee Adams, head of London, and Anita Rai in employment (London).

Ms Jones specialises in high net worth financial matters together with complicated children matters and surrogacy cases.  She is currently ranked in Band 1 in legal directory Chambers 2021 in Liverpool.

It states: “Beverley has excellent analytical skills and is able to identify relevant issues and summarise them in a direct and concise way.” JMW’s gamily law team in Manchester and Liverpool are ranked in Band 1 in Chambers and Partners 2021 and Tier 1 in Legal 500.

JMW senior partner Joy Kingsley said: “All these promotions are very well deserved and we were delighted to offer equity to Anita Rai, Beverley Jones, Elspeth Kinder, Michael Chapman, Lee Adams, Steve Morris and Thomas Pearson.
