Liverpool building firm sees revenues rise 20%
Liverpool family-owned building firm Frank Rogers sees annual revenues soar 20% to £25m thanks to impressive growth in its fire protection business. Tony McDonough reports
Building contractor Frank Rogers says significant growth in its fire protection division is key to a 20% rise in annual revenues.
Family-owned Frank Rogers is based in Clubmoor in Liverpool and was founded in the city 53 years ago. It now works on projects across the UK and has offices in Manchester and Newcastle and is set to establish a London base.
In the 12 months to September 30, 2024, the company says annual revenues hit £25m – £5m higher than in 2023. Since January staff numbers have also risen by 38% as they continue to expand their reach nationwide.
Frank Rogers is renowned across the UK construction sector for its expertise in construction, new-build, refurbishment, planned maintenance and repairs. But in recent times it has enjoyed rapid growth in its passive fire protection division.
Work in this area includes fire door renewals, fire door maintenance and compartmentation works. Fire safety is top of the construction industry’s agenda. This week the Government pledged to accelerate the raising of fire safety standards prompted by the Grenfell tragedy in 2017.
Over the past 12 months the business has carried out £10m of fire protection work, only second to construction which is worth £12m a year. Managing director Dean Rogers sees potential for more growth in this area.
He told LBN: “Passive fire protection is now a big area of the construction sector. Developers and existing landlords are now acutely aware of their responsibilities to ensure their buildings comply with the highest standards of safety.
“We have one of the UK’s most experienced and knowledgeable fire protection teams. We offer a full advisory, delivery and maintenance service in core fire risk works and all of our staff undergo rigorous training. That we have become an industry ‘go-to’ for passive fire protection is no surprise.”
Similar to many companies in the construction sector, Frank Rogers has battled with the headwinds of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine which sent the cost of energy and materials sky high.
Despite this the firm has seen its turnover triple between 2019 and 2024. And its growth and reputation have received external recognition.
In late May it was named Contractor of the Year at Northern Housing Awards. As a medium-sized enterprise, it demonstrated “exceptional capabilities” that rival those of larger industry players.
After winning the award, Dean described it as a “significant achievement given the stiff competition we faced”. He added: “This award is a reflection of our team’s hard work and the innovative solutions we bring to every project.”
As well as the growth in headcount Frank Rogers has refurbished and expanded its Liverpool headquarters and is ambitious to continue its growth trajectory, both in terms of revenue and volume of work, in 2025.
Dean says the business, which is just relaunching its website, has embedded social value across all its divisions, a commitment that is now essential for firms looking to win work, particularly with housing associations and local authority affordable housing landlords.
In September 2023, it also set up the FR Foundation that is committed to donating thousands of pounds to good causes within the communities it serves. It aims to “uplift individuals and communities” and “create a ripple effect of hope and empowerment”.

“As we get set to enter 2025 Frank Rogers is in good shape,” said Dean. “We work in an ultra-competitive sector at a time when cost pressures are huge but we believe our commitment to excellence will see us continue to win new work.
“Good reputations are hard won and we have built ours thanks to a track record of high quality delivery across 50 years.”
