Liverpool Chamber of Commerce has signed a sponsorship deal with the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament which return this year after a two-year absence.

Now in its 19th year, the tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This’s year’s event will take place over two days on August 19 and 20 at its usual Liverpool Cricket Club venue in Aigburth.

Over the past two decades it has become one of the biggest events in the Merseyside business calendar, attracting thousands of spectators as well as legendary players such as Martina Navratilova, Marion Bartoli, Ilie Nastase and Pat Cash. In 2019 it welcomed more than 5,000 spectators, including 2,000 corporate guests.

In the deal announced today, Liverpool Chamber will be a presenting sponsor of the tournament and there will be a first-ever Liverpool Chamber Day on Thursday, August 19. Members will be able to purchase discounted tickets for the tournament directly through the chamber.

The broader partnership will also see the chamber and tournament organisers Northern Vision collaborating at events throughout the next year. And the chamber will promote and fundraise on behalf of its charity partners during the tournament itself.

Paul Cherpeau, chief executive of Liverpool Chamber, said: “Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is a mainstay of the city’s events calendar and is an incredibly popular venue for businesspeople to come together and connect, so it’s great to see it returning this year.

“Our new partnership feels like a natural extension of our enduring relationship with Anders and the Northern Vision team. We are especially excited to be able to support our charity partners during the event.

“We know many of our members will be excited at the prospect of returning to Aigburth with the Chamber, enjoying some great tennis and hospitality and hopefully finding ways to enhance their businesses even further.”

Anders Borg, managing director of Northern Vision, added: “We were unable to go ahead last year and there has been a real clamour among the local business community in particular, hoping to find out if we are back for 2021 and how they can get involved.

“Our new partnership means chamber members will be able to enjoy exclusive access to certain tickets and aspects of the event and we look forward to welcoming dozens of Chamber members to enjoy our unique hospitality over the two days.”
