Business and political leaders from the Liverpool city region have arrived on the French Riviera for the world’s biggest property and investment expo.
MIPIM is held in Cannes every March and brings together cities, investors, developers and professionals from across the globe all looking to do deals and forge new relationships.
New partners
Liverpool’s private sector-led delegation includes 36 partners – with 10 new partners making the trip for the first time.
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson is leading the party for the five-day trip and he will be joined for the first time by Wirral Council leader Phil Davies.
Headline sponsor of the mission is Liverpool developer and hotel operator Signature Living.
Major projects
One of those joining the delegation is Kier, which is one half of the development team recently announced on the £200m Pall Mall scheme in Liverpool city centre.
Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “These are exciting times for Liverpool.
“There is currently £1.33bn worth of projects on site in the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.
“This, coupled with major developments completed in the last five years comes to a total of £5.44bn. Peel’s Liverpool Waters has a value of £5bn alone, whilst Knowledge Quarter Liverpool has a value of £2bn.
“These are impressive figures and schemes and we are very proud that they are currently on site in the city. We look forward to hearing more exciting announcements at MIPIM.”
Council collaboration
Liverpool City Council will be working in collaboration with Wirral Council and the Liverpool Local Enterprise Partnership (on a number of events this year.
Highlights from the Liverpool delegation’s diary include an International Waterfront Summit, sponsored by GVA, which will bring 10 cities together to discuss waterfront regeneration.
On the Tuesday morning, Wirral Council will host its ‘Wirral Well Made – Well Connected’ event.
A Downing Street Forum ‘Investing in Cities: Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester’, will take place on Wednesday, featuring chief executive of Liverpool City Council, Ged Fitzgerald and on the Thursday, Colin Sinclair, chief of KQ Liverpool will join the panel for a Northern Powerhouse Business Brunch.
‘A great story’
Deloitte’s Sean Beech, Liverpool MIPIM steering group chairman, said: “2017 is shaping up to be a very interesting year at MIPIM.
“The Liverpool city region has some fantastic projects on site now and we believe there are others in the pipeline, so we are hopeful that announcements will take place about these next week.
