Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust highlights World Mental Health Day
Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust (LCH) is partnering with the Richmond Fellowship to mark World Mental Health Day today, Friday 10th October.
World Mental Health Day is observed globally on 10th October every year, with the aim of raising greater awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising support for improved treatment.
As part of this, LCH will be working with mental health support charity, Richmond Fellowship to deliver a special Timebanking Skills Showcase Event demonstrating how their timebanking scheme, known as ‘Our Time’, has been enabling individuals recovering from mental health problems to volunteer their time within the community, to rehabilitate, and learn new life skills.
The event will feature ‘The World Mental Health Day Choir’, reflexology taster treatments, upper body massage, poetry readings, art and crafts demonstrations including card making and mask making, live acoustic music, and much more – all performed by local timebank members.
The event will take place between 11.00am – 4.00pm at the NHS Health Information Centre on Hanover Street in Liverpool city centre. Any members of the public are welcome to attend.
Rod Leung, Community Links Advisor for Richmond Fellowship explains:
“At Richmond Fellowship we specialise at supporting people with mental health problems to recover, live independently, find work and get the most out of life, and our timebanking scheme is one of the ways in which we do this.”
Paul White, Mental Health Lead for Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust adds,
“Taking place as part of World Mental Health Day, this event will be a fantastic opportunity for local employers and members of the public to meet individuals who have been volunteering through Richmond Fellowship’s Our Time scheme, to find out more about timebanking, and to consider getting involved in order to positively support local people recovering from mental health problems.”
In addition to this event, staff will also be on a health stand in Williamson Square throughout World Mental Health Day on Friday, offering free information and advice on mental health issues.
