Liverpool event to highlight benefits of angel investing
Liverpool angel investment specialist Gateway Angels to host an event in the city centre to promote a regional campaign to attract and support angel investors. Tony McDonough reports

Angel investing is one of the fastest-growing ways of investing in small and medium-sized businesses and an event in Liverpool is looking to maintain that momentum.
Liverpool angel investment specialist Gateway Angels is partnering with the British Business Bank and UK Business Angels Association to host the latest in a series of regional activation events.
Taking place at The Municipal Hotel on Dale Street on Wednesday, April 2, from 2-5pm, this event is being held as part of a wider regional campaign to broaden access to angel investing.
Angel investing is increasingly a way for businesses to secure vital funding to grow and for investors to secure potentially high returns. And, here in Liverpool city region, Gateway Angels, previously called the LCR Angel Network, provides that critical link between the business and the money.
Angel investors are typically wealthy individuals who provide capital for early-stage businesses or start-ups with high growth potential, usually in exchange for convertible debt or ownership equity. This method has been popularised by the BBC reality show Dragons’ Den.
Often Angels are successful entrepreneurs themselves and are either looking at some alternative ways to invest their money or they want to give something back. Many relish the prospect of getting involved in an exciting new venture.
However, guidance to ensure potential angels know exactly what it involves and empowering them to build more inclusive portfolios is essential if angel investing is to become more commonplace. This event will focus on:
- Attracting and supporting investors from diverse backgrounds.
- Educating those new to angel investing on the opportunities and challenges.
- Helping existing investors understand how backing diverse founders improves portfolio outcomes.
- Expert-led discussions and practical insights to allow attendees to gain the tools to engage more effectively with diverse founders and contribute to a more representative early-stage investment ecosystem.
Katie Nicholson, director of Gateway Angels, said: “In 2025 the funding environment for SMEs remains challenging.
“However, there are countless entrepreneurs out there with vision and great products and innovations who, if given the right backing and support, can be successful.

“Accomplished and experienced entrepreneurs who have been there and done it are an invaluable resource, not only in terms of offering financial backing but also passing on their wealth of experience.
“This event aims to answer many of the questions would-be angels are likely to have and we would urge them to come along and find out more.”
