Liverpool to host national conference on the future of maritime this summer
Organiser Mersey Maritime has announced that Sir Michael Bibby will be the keynote speaker of the event developed in response to the Government’s Maritime 2050 report
Sir Michael Bibby will be the keynote speaker at a national maritime conference being held in Liverpool this summer.
The former managing director of Liverpool maritime giant Bibby Group and the current president of UK Chamber of Shipping, is one of a number of speakers at The Maritime Exchange taking place at Liverpool Town Hall on Thursday, June 13.
Organised by and in association with industry body Mersey Maritime, the event as been developed in response to the Government’s Maritime 2050 report that sets out the long-term strategy for the £37bn UK maritime sector.
It will address some of the key themes raised in the Government’s Maritime 2050 report including trade, technology and innovation and people and skills. Each theme will be examined by an industry-leading speaker and panel and the aim is to provide insight and practical applications to businesses throughout the conference.
As well as Sir Michael, the speaker line-up will also include Sarah Kenny, chief executive of BMT and vice-chair of Maritime UK, and Lesley Batchelor, director general of the Institute of Export. Helen Kelly, head of communications at Nautilus and the former editor-in-chief at Lloyds List, will chair the conference.
Chris Shirling-Rooke, chief executive of Mersey Maritime, said: “The conference will tackle some of the key opportunities and challenges that the industry faces, with the speakers and panel discussions providing some healthy debate and practical solutions about how we can collaborate and evolve to meet the future needs of the industry.
“The conference will also provide an insight into some of the businesses and expertise amongst the Mersey Maritime cluster.”
