Liverpool Shopping Park ‘comes out of the ground’

Construction of Liverpool Shopping Park is progressing apace as a new steel structure comes out of the ground.

Caddick Construction has used more than 250 tonnes of steel to create a large retail unit located on the site of the former Blockbusters store and Subway (across the junction of Rathbone Road and Edge Lane).  Comprising 40,000 sq ft of indoor space and an additional 10,000 sq ft outdoor area, it will be joined by two other units totalling 10,000 sq ft each.

These units form part of the 727,000 sq ft Liverpool Shopping Park and will be dedicated to lifestyle, home and interiors retailers.  In total Liverpool Shopping Park will comprise 41 retail units as well as parking for 1500 cars and a significant leisure offer when it is complete at the end of 2017.  It is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.

Liverpool Shopping Park’s owner is The Derwent Group. David Lyons, group chief executive of The Derwent Group said:

“Work on site is progressing very well indeed. Weeks of site clearance and demolition are complete and we can now see Liverpool Shopping Park coming out of the ground.

“We are delivering this mixed-use commercial development in distinct phases, and these units will be one of the first parts of Liverpool Shopping Park to be completed.”

Andrew Murray, Managing Director at Caddick Construction, the contractor delivering Liverpool Shopping Park for The Derwent Group said:

“This is a very exciting stage. The steel structure means you can see the progress that is being made and the shape the park will take. It’s an important milestone in this project, everything we do from now will be supported by this all important structure and the people of Liverpool will be able to watch their new shopping centre develop.”

Described as the ‘final piece of Liverpool’s retail puzzle’ Liverpool Shopping Park will provide much needed regeneration for the local area, serving 683,919 people living within a 15 minute drive and the 65,000 cars that pass each day.
