Liverpool steakhouse offers free meals for NHS workers
Liverpool steakhouse Gaucho is inviting NHS workers to ‘eat for free’ one day next week to celebrate 75 years of the National Health Service. Tony McDonough reports
NHS workers will be able to eat for free at a Liverpool steakhouse on Wednesday, July 5, as the restaurant group marks the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service.
Located at 7 Water Street in the city centre, Gaucho is an Argentinian steak restaurant that opened its doors for the first time in autumn 2022. Employing 100 people, it is one of more than 15 outlets of the brand in the UK.
All the Gaucho’s across the country are taking part in the promotion to celebrate the 75 years of the NHS.
Available for both bookings and walk-ins at all venues, free meals for NHS workers will be redeemable on July 5 by showing proof of work via NHS ID card, from 12pm to 6.30pm.
A longstanding champion of the NHS, Gaucho supported frontline healthcare workers throughout COVID-19, providing more than 1,000 meals a week during the pandemic and hosting a dinner of appreciation at M Threadneedle St for 300 doctors and nurses.
Guests can enjoy up to three courses from the Gaucho’s set menu – featuring ceviche starters, carbon neutral steaks and decadent desserts, showcasing regeneratively farmed British beef and other ethically sourced ingredients.

Gaucho claims to be part of the ‘Sustainable Steak Movement’. This aims to accelerate the push towards zero carbon beef production. Beef is currently a significant contributor to carbon emissions.
Restaurant founder Martin Williams said: “At Gaucho, we are delighted to celebrate NHS workers with this gesture.
“Restaurants, when at their best, are an integral part of the community and we are proud to support our amazing NHS heroes and hope other restaurants will follow suit to do the same.”
