A Liverpool innovation business that supports the advanced manufacturing sector has secured a £125,000 cash injection.
Atomik AM, a University of Liverpool spin-off, will use the investment to develop binder jet innovations for additive manufacturing. Binder jetting is a 3D printing process that uses a liquid binder to create objects from powder-based materials.
This new funding has come from LYVA Labs which is Liverpool city region’s £11m innovation investment company, established with funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
Currently based at the university’s Liverpool’s School of Engineering, it has developed a number of techniques and binders that improve the process of binder jetting. It now plans to accelerate product commercialisation.
This funding also supports the business to develop new intellectual property (IP), file a new patent, secure eight jobs, and create a new role of chief operating officer.
Atomik AM’s track record includes successful collaborations with blue-chip companies, the filing of multiple patents, and a “robust pipeline” of innovative IP poised to transform the sector.
Professor Kate Black, founder and chief executive of Atomik AM, has previously founded and successfully exited a company. She said: “This investment is a testament to the groundbreaking work our team is doing to advance additive manufacturing processes.
“It allows us to expand our capabilities, accelerate innovation, and bring sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to the industry. At Atomik AM, we believe in driving change in manufacturing to create a better future for everyone.”
