Liverpool-based dance company, MD Productions, which is approaching its 16th year, took to a stage which included Rihanna and Lionel Richie to perform as part of the F1 Grand Prix show, one of the biggest events in the sporting calendar.

MD founder and creative director Miguel Doforo was joined on stage by seven company dancers as they performed across the two day event.

The dancers taking part in the Grand Prix spectacular come from a variety of backgrounds and all train for free as part of the MD in the Community Blank Canvas Programme, MD Productions’ new campaign set to launch in January 2017.

The project will seek the assistance of 200 businesses to help 200 individuals train in dance disciplines and performing arts for free.

Blank Canvas will be accessible to all ages, backgrounds and abilities, and will seek to engage the creative talents of the local community.

It is hoped the project will replicate the success of the company’s 2013 Emotions campaign, which offered free training and boot-camps in a number of creative disciplines to 63 young people from across Merseyside.

Founder Miguel Doforo says: “Like everything it starts as a hope and a dream but when it becomes a reality it’s an overwhelming feeling and gives you belief that anything is possible.

“It has always been my vision to bring great opportunities to a grass roots level and what an opportunity this was to propel the talent and passion of our city region on such a worldwide platform.

“My aim now is to make MD Productions completely free and accessible to all who want to engage in creativity across our city region and wrapping around the creative journey key work support, I want to give local access to great opportunities supported by local business. I need your help to make this happen.”
