London restaurant brand to open in Liverpool

A London-based Greek restaurant brand is to open its first outlet in Liverpool in early 2024. Tony McDonough reports

Greek restaurant brand The Real Greek is to open its first restaurant in Liverpool.

Based in London, The Real Greek has been expanding across the UK. Now it has struck a deal with Liverpool ONE operator Grosvenor to take a 3,900 sq ft unit in Paradise Street. The outlet is set to open in mid-January.

It is the 11th food, beverage and leisure operator to commit to Liverpool ONE so far this year. Turtle Bay, the Caribbean restaurant and bar, has reaffirmed its commitment to the by upsizing its existing unit on Hanover Street to create a 3,700 sq ft restaurant.

Loretta’s Parkside Tavern, an independent café cocktail bar, has also recently opened in a 1,600 sq ft at Chavasse Park.

Rob Deacon, asset management director at Grosvenor, said: “The Real Greek is an excellent addition to Liverpool ONE’s diverse selection of F&B operators, offering yet another unique option for our visitors.

“Along with the fantastic brands to have committed to the destination this year, including Gravity MAX and Flight Club, The Real Greek’s debut is further compelling evidence of the sustained demand for Liverpool ONE among leading operators.”

Claiming to offer an “authentic Greek dining experience”, The Real Greek will serve cold and hot meze, souvlaki wraps and Greek salads and sweet Greek treats such as baklava. Diners will also be offered a menu of Greek drinks.

It will have a capacity of 162 covers, including 38 outside. Nabil Mankarious, managing director at The Real Greek, added: “We have always been keen to expand to Liverpool, as it is renowned for its diverse and high-quality hospitality scene.

“Securing a home for our new restaurant right in the heart of Liverpool ONE is a hugely exciting announcement for us. We are thrilled to be making our debut in this vibrant city, and can’t wait to introduce our authentic Greek flavours to a brand-new audience.”

Liverpool ONE says grab-and-go and restaurant sales up 18% and 7.2% respectively in September versus the same month in 2022.
