As part of local activities to support the week-long awareness campaign, Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust (LCH) and Liverpool City Council (LCC) have been providing a series of drop-in sessions at Liverpool’s new Health Information Centre on Hanover Street.

Throughout the week, the team are giving away the men’s health packs to members of the public who drop in for information or advice on men’s health issues – covering everything from men’s cancers, to alcohol, stopping smoking and mental health.

Earlier today, members of LCH’s Health Promotion Team visited the Town Hall and presented The Lord Mayor with a men’s health pack containing a wealth of men’s health giveaways, information and advice.

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Gary Millar showed his support for the campaign’s message, which is all about supporting men’s physical and mental health and wellbeing – with a particular focus this year on stress, anxiety and depression linked to work and unemployment.

Councillor Gary Millar, Lord Mayor of Liverpool said:

“I was delighted to be presented with a men’s health pack at the Town Hall today and to be able to show my support for Men’s Health Week in order to help raise awareness of men’s health issues.

“As men, we can often find it difficult to talk about our health concerns or feelings and problems, and this can be hugely detrimental to both our physical and mental health. It’s really important that we all have someone we can talk to about these things, because it’s not good to bottle things up.

“The new Health Information Centre is a fantastic service which can support you to do just that, and I would encourage any men who have a health concern or just feel like life is getting them down a bit, to drop in and chat to one of LCH’s friendly team of professionals during Men’s Health Week.”

Carmel Fraser, Public Health Service Manager for LCH added:

“We are delighted that the Lord Mayor of Liverpool has shown his support for Men’s Health Week and is encouraging more men to feel comfortable talking about their health concerns and worries.”

“At the Health Information Centre, our friendly team offer lots of information and advice that can support you in building your resilience in order to help you face life’s obstacles, and can signpost or refer you to other local services that can support you to feel healthier and happier.”

For more information or advice on healthy living, drop-in to the new, interactive Health Information Centre on Hanover Street any week day between 10am – 4pm, and some weekends.
