Moose opens new outlet and is set for Crosby return
Merseyside North American-themed breakfast and brunch chain Moose opens seventh outlet with a planned relaunch in its original home of Crosby. Tony McDonough reports
American-themed breakfast and brunch chain Moose is this week opening its seventh outlet with plans to reopen in its home town of Crosby.
Nick van Breemen was inspired to launch Moose 18 years ago after spending two years travelling across North America and eating in numerous diners. He opened the first Moose Coffee in College Road in Crosby.
That proved to be a hit with people flocking to try generous portions of pancakes, twists on well-known dishes such as eggs benedict and favourites like crispy bacon and maple syrup, all washed down with a selection of coffees.
Nick then opened up in Dale Street in Liverpool city centre, an outlet that proved even more popular. Several years after the branch was opened people can still regularly be seen queuing down the street.
Moose Coffee outlets then popped up in other locations, including Hope Street and Princes Dock in Liverpool. There are now also two in central Manchester, one in Leeds and a new Moose opening in Media City in Salford this week.
This year business has been working with Liverpool-based branding agency Continuous and has rebranded as just “Moose’.
Moose closed its original Crosby restaurant in 2021 but is set to make a return to the town. Its new outlet will be located in the historic Carnegie Library with renovation works now under way.
“We’ve always been about more than just coffee,” said Nick. “Moose is a place where people come together to enjoy great food and a relaxed atmosphere.

“After 18 years, we wanted a brand that celebrates where we’ve come from but also sets us up for where we’re going. Working with Continuous has been fantastic – they truly understand what Moose is about.
“They have helped us shape a brand that’s ready for our biggest launches yet. Media City is a huge step forward, and returning to Crosby feels like coming home.”
This refreshed branding, which was created collaboratively with Moose’s team, involved refining the iconic moosehead logo, introducing a new typeface, and streamlining colour guidelines.
David Beattie, senior client director at Continuous, added “Moose has been part of Northern café culture for years. As someone from Crosby, I’ve seen the brand’s incredible journey firsthand.
“Supporting a Liverpool-based business with such a rich heritage has been a real privilege. It’s been rewarding to help refine Moose’s identity, creating a brand that respects its roots while preparing it for the next 18 years.”
