Indian street food chain Mowgli is to make its first foray into the home delivery market after striking a deal with Uber Eats.

Founded by former barrister and cooking guru Nisha Katona in Liverpool in 2014, Mowgli has expanded across the UK following private equity investment and now operates 27 restaurants.

Now, for the first time, its popular dishes such as gunpowder chicken, angry bird and tamarind treacle fries and house curries such as mother butter chicken and temple dahl can be delivered to homes across the UK at the tap of a button.

Mowgli chief executive Lucy Worth said: “Mowgli is about more than just food – it’s about togetherness, generosity, and the joy of sharing dishes that feel alive with flavour and soul.

“For years, our guests have asked when Mowgli would be available for delivery. Today, thanks to our exclusive partnership with Uber Eats, we can finally bring that experience home.”

In May LBN revealed Mowgli had returned to profit after soaring costs had pushed it into the red in the previous year. Annual accounts for the 12 months to July 31, 2024 revealed a big rise in sales from £30.9m to £40.5m.

This was partly due to the number of restaurants operated by the business, rising from 21 outlets to 24 outlets during the accounting period. Pre-tax profits came in at just over £500,000 against £476,456 pre-tax loss in the previous year.

From today Mowgli is available on Uber Eats in Beverley, Birmingham, Bridgend, Brighton, Bristol, Bury St Edmunds, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Cheltenham, Cheshire Oaks, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Knutsford, Leeds, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Preston and Sheffield.

After practising as a barrister for more than 20 years, Nisha Katona opened her first Mowgli outlet in Bold Street in Liverpool in 2014.

She had already written three cookery books prior to this and was known as ‘the Curry Evangelist’ on YouTube. Before launching the first outlet she had vowed never to open a restaurant.

In January 2023 Nisha sold a significant stake in the business to London-based investor TriSpan. Private equity outfit Foresight Group also sold its 24% stake in Mowgli. The deal was believed to value the firm at £25m to £30m.

Speaking about the latest agreement, Matthew Price, regional General Manager of UKI and northern Europe at Uber Eats, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Mowgli exclusively to Uber Eats.

“This much-loved national brand underscores our momentum, and we’re focused on helping them grow their business and reach new customers.”
