New M&S store due to open next to rival supermarket
Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer’s stable growth continues with a new Simply Food store due to be opened in Prescot Cables Retail Park on the 1st October. The store will be located just a few minutes’ walk from one of its biggest competitors in the supermarket business, as Prescot’s thriving retail park also includes an expansive Tesco Extra.
The Marks and Spencer store is set to be large enough to compete, at 8,500 square feet where the Simply Food range will be on offer along with a selection of flowers, cards and gift wrap. The store will also include their own café stocked with fresh brewed coffee and a range of speciality breads, pastries and cakes, freshly baked each day.
The store is also expected to bring job opportunities to the area, with around 57 positions available in-store, as well as openings for drivers for the M&S Shop Your Way service, which allows shoppers to order their shopping online or on-site with an impressive next day delivery and collection policy completely free of charge.
Store manager, Stuart Williams appeared un-phased by the close proximity of the new store to one of its competitors, and demonstrated his optimism for the future of the store, saying:
“We are delighted to be opening an M&S Simply Food at Cables Retail Park and I am looking forward to welcoming customers into the store to see all we have to offer.”
