Peel Ports selects students for scholarship
Five students from Hugh Baird College in Bootle will begin a Scholarship programme at the Port of Liverpool in a new initiative with Peel Ports
Port of Liverpool owner Peel Ports has chosen five students aged 16 to 31 from Hugh Baird College in Bootle to take part in the Peel Ports Scholarship programme.
The Scholarship with Hugh Baird officially launched in August 2021 and students undertaking Level 3 studies were invited to apply for the programme by submitting a presentation detailing why they thought they should be accepted onto the scholarship.
Interviews took place in November and now the five successful candidates will embark on the programme. Working with Peel Ports, the college has developed a bespoke programme that will give students the chance to spend time developing their skills in a real working environment.
It will enable the students to undertake an enhanced industry placement at The Port of Liverpool across various disciplines, including general business support functions, marketing, engineering, and IT. Each student will also be assigned a mentor to work with them during their placement.
Dan Weigh, head of operational HR at Peel Ports, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for five students from within our local community to come and experience what it’s really like to work at Peel Ports.
“At the same time, the students will be given an insight into the various career routes we have on offer at Peel Ports with the hope that one day they come to work with us.”
