Residents of a new £130m 500-unit residential development in Wirral Waters will see a major UK supermarket chain open an outlet right next door.

Work on the first phase of Miller’s Quay, comprising 150 apartments, is now complete. An official launch will be held next week and prospective tenants will be invited for viewing later in July. The first tenants are expected to move in in August.

Work on the remaining 350 apartments is continuing and they are expected to be ready for occupation in January. The whole scheme is rental only with 100 of the apartments classed as ‘affordable’. This means rents will be no higher than 80% of full market rate.

LBN was given a sneak peak of the completed part of the development this week. Apartments offer large balconies with views across Birkenhead Docklands. The scheme  comprises six separate blocks.

Site owner Peel has secured a deal for a major UK supermarket to open an outlet right next door. This will provide a much-needed amenity for Wirral Waters which already has people living in modular homes nearby.

In January 2022 Peel Waters announced that institutional investor Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC) was funding the Miller’s Quay scheme. Wirral Council is also a partner on the Build-to-Rent development.

Peel Waters has also appointed property firm JLL as marketing, lettings and management agent for the scheme. JLL will have a permanent office on the site.

One agent told LBN that it looks likely the development will prove popular with locals who have grown up in Birkenhead. The agent said: “We have seen a number of people from the local area turn up at the gate asking for more information.”

Miller’s Quay has been built by construction firm GRAHAM. It offered employment for local people and training for Wirral Met College students. Most of the workers on the project have come from the surrounding area.
