Peel to build 24-hour HGV refuelling facility at the Port of Liverpool
The refuelling station, a joint venture between Peel and Certs Energy, will be able to handle eight HGVs at a time. Tony McDonough reports.
Peel Ports has secured planning permission for a 24-hour lorry refuelling facility at the Port of Liverpool – as it gears up for the opening of the £300m Liverpool2 development.
The company is expecting a surge in cargo in and out of the port over the next few years as Liverpool2 will be able to handle 95% of the world’s largest freight vessels.
The refuelling station, a joint venture between Peel and Certs Energy, will be able to handle eight HGVs at a time.
Ground works and construction will begin imminently on the facility which will be equipped with high-speed pumps combined with advanced data collection, fuel monitoring equipment and filtration systems.
Located at the main entrance to the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal and adjacent to Liverpool2, the bunker site will add convenience for current port users as there will be no need for drivers to divert off route to refuel.
Paul Williams, director of Certas Energy, said: “Our long-term lease not only demonstrates our continued investment to expanding our national refuelling network, but also highlights our commitment to supporting the continued economic development of the city of Liverpool.
“We look forward to the HGV refuelling site opening in early 2017.”
David Huck, port director at Peel Ports, added: “This new facility will add value to our customers and provide a convenient and cost-effective location for HGV drivers to refuel their vehicles.”
