Liverpool city region-based high street pharmacy group Imaan Healthcare says it aims to continue expanding through both acquisition and organic growth.

Headquartered in St Helens, Imaan was founded in 2012 and has expanded rapidly and now operates almost 70 independent community pharmacies. Full accounts for the year 12 months to October 28, 2024, have been posted on Companies House.

They show a hefty 58% rise in revenues to £55.7m. However, pre-tax profits were down to £1.77m from £2.2m in the previous year. This may reflect the current emphasis on expansion and the costs associated with it. Dividends totalled £819,000.

Zubair Malik, who is listed on Companies House as a “person with significant control, writes in the annual report: “The board of directors and management are continuing with the expansion of the group for the foreseeable future.

“This expansion will be both acquisition-led and through organic growth. The group is also working with local CCGs (NHS commissioning groups) to promote additional healthcare services and is committed to ensuring the staff are trained to very high standards.”

During the accounting period employee numbers grew significantly from just over 400 to almost 550. Imaan’s pharmacies provide services for more than 250,000 patients.

The business says it is also dedicated to “training the next generation of pharmacists”. Each year it recruits more than 70 pre-registration pharmacists annually through the Oriel recruiting platform. It has successfully promoted pharmacists to teacher practitioner roles at different universities.
