Council planners give the go-head for 268 new homes, 80 of which will be ‘affordable’, at a Liverpool city region site. Tony McDonough reports
Barratt and David Wilson Homes are to press ahead with plans for 268 new homes in Sefton.
Planners on Sefton Council have given the go-ahead for the project which will include 80 affordable homes. A property is classed as affordable if the sale price or rent is no more than 80% of the local rate.
Outline planning permission for the scheme, in Lydiate Lane on the edge of Thornton near Crosby, was granted by councillors in January 202.
Since then Barratt and David Wilson Homes have developed detailed plans in consultation with officers, local parish councils and the public.
As well as the 268 new homes, the plans also include public open space, a new play area, footpath and cycleway connections, landscaping, and drainage.
Andrew Taylor, planning director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West, said: “Since we acquired the site, our team has worked hard to devise a detailed scheme that faithfully reflects the principles set out in the outline permission.
“This represents quality placemaking and helps the council to deliver another of its Local Plan allocations.”

Work on discharging conditions is now under way and development of the site is expected to begin in summer 2023.
Eden Planning has led on the reserved matters application submission. Chris Garratt, director at Eden Planning, added: “We’ve worked closely with the planning officers at Sefton Council since submission of the application to maintain a positive dialogue and address detailed matters that arise during the determination period.
“The design assures quality living that will complement the local area, meeting the needs of families and first-time buyers alike.”
