Developer reveals plans to build 730 homes on land known as ‘Spookies Wood’ in Knowsley where a ‘vaporous entity’ is said to lurk among the trees. Tony McDonough reports

Property firm Hallam Land Management has unveiled plans to build 730 new homes on land currently occupied by a ‘haunted’ woodland where a ‘vaporous entity’ reportedly lurks.
Located south of Home Farm Road in Knowsley Village, this 83-acre plot of land contains Spookies Wood. Hallam, a division of Henry Boot, has submitted what is called a ‘scoping opinion application’ to Knowsley Council.
In the first instance the company wants to ascertain whether an environmental impact assessment is necessary for an outline planning application. The land is currently designated as suitable for residential development in Knowsley’s Local Plan.
As well as building 730 new homes, Hallam would also provide green infrastructure, combining existing hedgerows with newly formed ecologically enhanced areas.
Planning specialist Pegasus has submitted the application on behalf of Hallam. The project team also includes Astute Transport, Air Quality Consultants, Hoare Lea, Weetwood, and FPCR.

Spookies Wood has been referenced by Tom Slemen, a renowned Merseyside paranormal writer who has written multiple books on legends of ghosts, ghouls, banshees and demons across the city region.
On the Haunted Liverpool Facebook page he wrote: “On the stretch of Knowsley Lane which passes the appropriately named Spookies Wood, a vaporous entity has been seen to roll out of the wood and change into various figures, including a nun and a young lady.
“These entities then try to hitch a ride. When they are picked up, they say ‘can you drop me off half a mile down the road?’ but then vanish into thin air shortly afterwards.”
