Plans for city centre apart-hotel approved

A combination of apart-hotel rooms and student accommodation will make up a new development approved by Liverpool City Council.

Plans for three new buildings on a city centre site with frontages to Oldham Place, Benson Street and Back Renshaw Street were passed by members at today’s meeting.

The scheme has been designed by city architects Falconer Chester Hall for NR Capricornus, part of the Niveda Realty group based in London.

The development will see the demolition of an existing building and includes two blocks of eight storeys and one of six, comprising 52 serviced apartments and a total of 320 units of student accommodation split between 28 self-contained studios and 34 cluster rooms with communal facilities.

The student accommodation will be contained within one of the eight-storey blocks and will also include a gym, cinema and games room.

The two apart-hotel blocks will each also have a ground floor commercial unit in addition to the serviced apartments.

Managing director at Falconer Chester Hall, Adam Hall said:

“We are delighted to have secured permission for this scheme on a site badly in need of regeneration. The city’s leisure offer continues to attract more and more visitors and it’s important that there are the rooms to cater for this growing market. Additionally, the proposed student accommodation is close to the city’s Knowledge Quarter so within easy reach for the expected occupiers.”

The buildings will be set within hard and soft landscaping to include external seating and tree planting, and their red-brick finishes will sit comfortably within their setting.
