Two free cyber security workshops for businesses are taking place in Sefton this month but those wishing to attend must register beforehand.

InvestSefton and the North West Cyber Resilience Centre are teaming up to host the sessions on Wednesday, September 20, at the Lake House in Waterloo, and Thursday, September 21, at Formby Hall.

Both events will include workshops with live demonstrations and real-world examples that cover a range of subjects including phishing, password security, networks, malware and social media.

There will also be advice on training staff about security awareness and an ‘Ask the cyber expert’ Q&A session. Both of these events are free for Sefton business but they need to sign up to the Merseyside Cyber Security Programme first. Click here for more details.

Membership includes security awareness training for up to five staff, access to the latest cybersecurity policy and procedure templates and a one-to-one consultation lasting up to one hour.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills said: “Cybercrime affects almost one-third of businesses monthly, with the average cyber-attack costing each business more than £15,000.

“The lost revenue, expensive repairs and reputational damage resulting from a cyber-attack can be devastating for any business, which is why we the council want to help Sefton businesses protect themselves through the InvestSefton events.”

To book a place, Seton businesses should email investsefton@sefton.gov.uk  or call Sharon or Dom on 0151 934 3452.
